U11 CHAMPIONS DIV 1 2009

Big congratualtions to OWCC U11s who were crowned the NKJL Champions of  Div 1 at the Awards Evening on Thursday 10th September. 

Many thanks must go to the coaches, match managers, scorers and all the parents for the support of the team. Thanks also to Linda Saint who organised the "champions shirts".

"An exciting and exhilarating season for the our Under 11 team culminated in being crowned as Champions of Division 1 at the North Kent Junior League's Award and Medal presentation at HSBC's Clubhouse on the evening Thursday 10 September. The excitement of players and the pride of their parents were well deserved for the team had won the Title by a margin of 17 points having been undefeated in all games played. Like all title races there were some close shaves and tough matches where the team had to dig deep to pull through but where our batting did not come off there was always a player who stepped up to produce an important contribution to winning a game. Championships though are not won by individuals but by teams. This team had strength in depth with spirit and self belief coursing through the side which was demonstrated by exceptional bowling and fielding performances throughout the whole season. As the season progressed and confidence grew then so the team's performances got even better with the penultimate game against our principal challengers Blackheath being decisively won scoring 162 runs and bowling them out for 52 in 12.2 overs. However the Championship was not quite decided and in the rain affected last match at Beckenham after scoring 145 and declaring we bowled out Beckenham for 15 in 11.4 overs to decisively take the Title.  

The season is now history but for everyone who has played in or been involved with the side then it will long last in our memories. For the medal winners then they will always be able to open their presentation case take a long look at that medal and feel proud that they were part of it all. And then of course there is the Champions Shield showing the Club as WINNERS 2009."
